💙 95 DAYS WITHOUT WAKING — AND AMERICA IS STILL STANDING WITH XAVIER TAYLOR

For 95 days, a 12-year-old boy has remained on a ventilator after a baseball accident changed his life forever.

His name is Xavier Taylor.

And nearly four months later, his family is still waiting for the moment they have prayed for every day — the moment Xavier wakes up.

On May 26, Xavier had just finished warming up before a championship baseball game in Maple Shade, New Jersey, when he was struck by a baseball.

He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in critical condition.

Since that day, his family has refused to give up hope.

Now, there are signs that have given them even more reason to keep believing.

Xavier has gained weight.

He has been moved from the hospital to a short-term care facility.

His father, Gregory Taylor, said Xavier is now regulating his own body temperature.

He is also no longer receiving regular medication apart from necessary nutrition and nutrients, and his family says he has been taken off additional electrolyte fluids after encouraging lab results.

“He has gained weight,” Gregory told WPVI. “When we look at Xave every day, we see Xavier. We don’t see that frail boy from May and early June.”

But Xavier is still on a ventilator.

And he is still not awake.

That is why the prayers have continued.

On September 19, friends, teammates, family members and supporters gathered at Karcher Field in Maple Shade for a Night of Prayer & Praise dedicated to Xavier.

The field filled with people wearing blue and yellow, many carrying Xavier’s No. 6.

They prayed for healing.

They prayed for strength.

And they prayed for the day Xavier can once again run around the bases.

The support has reached far beyond one baseball field.

More than $100,000 has been raised for Xavier’s family, while blue lights, signs and No. 6 tributes have appeared throughout the community.

But perhaps the most powerful part of this story is what Xavier’s father continues to imagine.

Gregory Taylor says he believes his son will wake up.

And when that day comes, he imagines Xavier looking around and asking one simple question:

“What did I miss?”

His father’s answer?

They will show him.

They will show him the people who prayed.

The people who wore his number.

The people who turned their lights blue.

The teammates who never forgot him.

And the thousands of strangers who refused to let his name disappear.

For 95 days, Xavier has been silent.

But the people around him have not been.
