LOS ANGELES — Cindy Crawford and her family are facing another painful chapter following the death of Presley Gerber, as new details emerge about plans to privately honor the 27-year-old model.

Presley, the only son of Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died on Sept. 20 at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica. His death has left the family asking for privacy while authorities continue to investigate what happened.

Family Wants a Private Memorial

According to PEOPLE, the family has been struggling emotionally while deciding how best to remember Presley.

Sources told the publication that Cindy Crawford, Rande Gerber and Presley’s sister, Kaia Gerber, want the memorial to remain private, with no media or paparazzi present.

Malibu is reportedly being considered because of Presley’s longtime connection to surfing and the beach. The family was still working out the details, and no public funeral ceremony had been confirmed in the reporting.

TMZ similarly reported that the family was leaning toward a small gathering rather than a large public memorial, with the possibility of holding it at the family’s Malibu home. Those plans were described as preliminary.

The family’s desire for privacy is consistent with the statement released after Presley’s death, when a representative asked the public to respect the family’s wishes during what was described as an extremely difficult time.

Autopsy Completed, Cause of Death Still Pending

An autopsy has been completed, but there is still no final official determination of Presley’s cause and manner of death.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner said its investigation remains ongoing and that additional testing or studies were requested before a determination can be made. The department cautioned that deferred cases can take months before a cause of death is established.

Santa Monica police are investigating the death. Authorities have reported no indication of foul play at this stage, while the circumstances surrounding an apparent overdose remain under investigation.

Because the toxicology and other testing remain incomplete, reports about the precise substance or circumstances involved should not be treated as a final medical finding.

A Family Remembering Presley Away From the Spotlight

Presley had spoken publicly in recent years about mental health and substance-use struggles.

His sister Kaia had also discussed her brother’s openness about those challenges and the impact his experiences had on their family. PEOPLE reported that relatives were proud of Presley for using his experiences to encourage others to be more open about struggles that are often kept private.

Presley’s death has also prompted tributes from friends and people who knew him personally. Former girlfriend Charlotte D’Alessio recently shared an emotional remembrance, describing the lasting connection she felt with Presley.

For Crawford and the rest of the Gerber family, however, the focus appears to remain away from public attention.

Rather than a large celebrity funeral, they are reportedly considering a quiet gathering surrounded by people who knew Presley best.
