MAN ARRESTED AFTER SHOOTING HARRIS COUNTY DEPUTY AND STEALING PATROL SUV
A Texas man accused of shooting a Harris County deputy in the leg and stealing his patrol SUV was found hiding in a shed the next morning following an overnight Blue Alert manhunt.
Deputies were called to a family disturbance in the 1100 block of Bayou Drive in Channelview around 6:30 p.m. on September 30. Three deputies arrived at the scene when authorities say 25-year-old Chase Layne Patin opened fire, striking one deputy in the leg. The wounded officer was rushed to a hospital in fair condition and is expected to recover.

Following the shooting, Patin fled in the deputy’s patrol vehicle, sparking an urgent search across the area. The stolen patrol SUV was later found abandoned near Dell Dale and the East Freeway, prompting law enforcement to focus their search on the surrounding neighborhoods and wooded sections. A Blue Alert was issued overnight as search teams tracked the suspect.
The Texas Department of Public Safety described Patin as 5-foot-7 with brown eyes and black hair, last seen wearing a black hat and black shirt. Deputies maintained a heavy presence throughout the night, systematically searching near the location where the abandoned vehicle was recovered.

The search ended the following morning when authorities located Patin hiding inside a shed in a wooded area off West Brentwood. Lieutenant A. Waybright confirmed that Patin surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. EMS evaluated him at the scene before he was transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning.
Patin now faces three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, with additional charges expected. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez commended the persistent efforts of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office in apprehending the suspect safely.
