TOM JONES’ SHOCK EXIT FROM THE VOICE UK — FANS ARE FIGHTING TO BRING THE LEGEND BACK

For 13 seasons, Sir Tom Jones was one of the faces most closely associated with The Voice UK.

But now, the 86-year-old music legend is preparing to leave the red chairs behind — and his departure has sparked an emotional backlash from fans and even one of his longtime fellow coaches.

What began as a major shake-up at ITV has quickly turned into a campaign demanding that Tom Jones return.

And standing among those calling for his comeback is someone who knows him particularly well: will.i.am.

Tom Jones Says He Was Fired from 'The Voice UK' Due to 'Financial Difficulty' TOM JONES DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE

Tom Jones made it clear that leaving The Voice UK was not his decision.

After news of the shake-up emerged, the singer said that he loved the show and appreciated its audience, but ITV had decided he would no longer be a full-time coach.

Jones said the reason initially given to him was financial difficulty connected to insurance.

He also said ITV later described the changes as an attempt to “refresh” the programme, with a new coaching line-up meaning there would no longer be a place for him as a full-time coach.

The legendary singer was reportedly offered a reduced role in which he could make appearances rather than participate as a coach from the beginning.

That was not the role he wanted.

“THERE’S NEVER A GOOD TIME TO FIRE AN 86-YEAR-OLD”

Jones expressed his disappointment in unusually direct terms.

After more than a decade associated with the programme, he felt the decision had come as a major blow.

His comments quickly spread among fans, many of whom felt that the veteran singer still had plenty to offer contestants and viewers.

Jones had been an intermittent coach since The Voice UK first launched in 2012, missing only one season during his time with the programme.

For many viewers, his presence had become part of the identity of the show itself.

ITV has now officially confirmed the line-up for Series 15, which will air in 2027.

The new coaching panel will feature:

Cheryl
Aitch
Kelly Rowland
will.i.am

Cheryl and Aitch will make their coaching debuts, while Kelly Rowland returns for a second series and will.i.am remains as the show’s only long-standing coach from the original panel.

Alesha Dixon and Stacey Solomon will also take over as hosts.

ITV thanked Tom Jones for his years on the programme, describing him as “irreplaceable” and praising the memorable moments he had created for audiences and singers.

The broadcaster also thanked departing coaches Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher, as well as presenter Emma Willis.

 WILL.I.AM COULDN’T HIDE HIS EMOTIONS

Tom’s departure has been particularly emotional for will.i.am.

The two had spent years working together on The Voice UK, and reports from filming for the upcoming series said will.i.am became visibly emotional while discussing his friend’s departure.

According to reports, he even became tearful during filming and said Tom had given him his blessing to continue on the programme.

Their friendship has become one of the most recognisable relationships associated with the show.

And will.i.am has not remained silent about his support for Tom.

THE PETITION TO BRING TOM BACK

A fan named Aaron Howlett launched an online petition calling for ITV to reinstate Sir Tom Jones as a coach.

The campaign quickly attracted attention from around the world.

By late September, it had collected more than 63,000 signatures, with supporters arguing that Tom’s experience, musical knowledge and relationship with contestants made him an important part of the programme.

Then came a major boost.

will.i.am publicly backed the campaign, sharing the petition on social media alongside an emotional reaction to Tom’s departure.

By September 25, reports said the petition had passed 66,000 signatures.

For fans, the message was clear: they were not ready to say goodbye.

WHY TOM MEANS SO MUCH TO THE SHOW

Tom Jones isn’t simply another former television coach.

His career spans generations.

He has been performing for decades and remains one of Britain’s most recognisable singers, with hits including It’s Not Unusual, Delilah and Green Green Grass of Home.

On The Voice UK, he also became known for mentoring young performers and bringing decades of experience to the coaching chair.

According to BBC reporting, he has mentored three contestants who went on to win the competition.

That history is one reason supporters believe his contribution cannot easily be replaced.

A NEW ERA FOR THE VOICE UK

There is no doubt that the programme is entering a completely different era.

Cheryl brings her experience as a member of Girls Aloud and a former X Factor judge.

Aitch represents a younger generation of British music.

Kelly Rowland returns after her first season on the programme.

And will.i.am remains the bridge between the show’s original era and its new chapter.

ITV clearly sees the new line-up as a way of giving the programme a fresh identity.

But for many viewers, the question remains:

Can The Voice UK really feel the same without Tom Jones?

FANS ARE ALREADY MAKING THEIR FEELINGS KNOWN

The petition is not the only sign of the reaction.

Fans have taken to social media to express disappointment over Tom’s departure, while some have questioned whether removing such a familiar figure was the right decision.

Reports have also suggested that the current series has experienced a significant ratings decline, with The Sun reporting an audience of fewer than 1.5 million for an episode aired on October 3. That report described it as the programme’s lowest audience, although ratings can be affected by scheduling and competition from other programmes.

It is too early to say that Tom’s departure alone caused the change.

But the timing has certainly intensified the debate around ITV’s decision.

TOM’S STORY WITH THE VOICE ISN’T NECESSARILY OVER

Although Tom will no longer be a full-time coach on Series 15, ITV has previously said discussions were continuing with his team about possible involvement in another capacity.

That leaves the door open — at least in theory — for viewers to see him return in some form.

For now, however, the red chair that belonged to Tom will be occupied by someone else.

After 13 seasons, countless auditions and years of memorable television moments, one of Britain’s most recognisable music legends is stepping away from the coaching panel.

But his fans aren’t quietly accepting the goodbye.

And with will.i.am backing the campaign, thousands of signatures behind it and viewers continuing to talk about his departure, the message to ITV is getting louder:

They still want Tom Jones back.
