“15 YEARS OF UNCONDITIONAL LOVE” — RUTH LANGSFORD HEARTBROKEN AS BELOVED RESCUE DOG MAGGIE DIES AGED 16
She was more than a pet. For 15 years, Maggie was a treasured companion who brought comfort, happiness and unconditional love into Ruth Langsford’s life. Now, the television presenter is saying goodbye to a beloved member of her family.
Ruth Langsford has announced the death of her beloved rescue dog Maggie, who passed away peacefully at the age of 16.
The Loose Women presenter shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on October 14, posting a photograph of Maggie alongside an emotional tribute to the dog she and her former husband, broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, adopted in 2011.
Ruth confirmed that Maggie’s passing was peaceful and that they stayed by her side until the very end.
“We will treasure our memories forever”
In her moving message, Ruth wrote:
“It is with a heavy heart that I tell you our beautiful Maggie has gone to sleep forever.”
She explained that Maggie had reached the age of 16 and that her passing was painless and peaceful.
“We are so thankful to have had her in our lives for 15 years… she gave us so much joy & unconditional love. We will treasure our memories forever.”
She ended the tribute with a simple farewell: “Rest in peace our beautiful girl.”
The words reflected the deep bond Ruth had shared with Maggie throughout the years — a relationship built on companionship, affection and countless everyday memories.
A rescue dog who became family
Ruth and Eamonn adopted Maggie, a border collie cross, from a Dogs Trust rescue centre in 2011, when she was around a year old.
From then on, Maggie became a much-loved part of their household. Ruth frequently shared photographs and updates about her “precious girl” with her followers, giving fans glimpses into the life they shared.
Even after Ruth and Eamonn announced their separation in 2024, Maggie remained an important part of both their lives. The former couple had continued sharing responsibility for their beloved dog.
Their story is a reminder of how deeply a rescue animal can become woven into a family’s life — offering comfort and affection through changing circumstances and different chapters.
An outpouring of love from friends and fans
Following Ruth’s announcement, friends and fellow television personalities flooded her post with messages of sympathy.
Amanda Holden sent her love, while broadcaster Dermot O’Leary remembered Maggie affectionately. Vogue Williams, Gemma Atkinson, Kelly Brook and other familiar faces also shared condolences.
Fans joined them in expressing sadness at the loss, with many recognising the pain of saying goodbye to an animal who has been part of a family for so many years.
For Ruth, the messages offered a reminder that the love people feel for their pets is widely understood — and that grief for them deserves the same tenderness and compassion.
A goodbye after 15 unforgettable years
Losing a pet after so many years together means saying goodbye not only to a companion, but also to the familiar routines, greetings and small moments that make a house feel like home.
Maggie had been part of Ruth’s life for 15 years, accompanying her through countless memories and changes. Her absence will undoubtedly be felt in the quiet moments as much as the big ones.
But Ruth’s tribute also focused on gratitude: the happiness Maggie brought, the affection she gave so freely and the memories that will remain.
Maggie may be gone, but the love she gave Ruth and her family will remain part of their story.
Rest peacefully, beautiful Maggie. You were loved for 15 wonderful years, and you will never be forgotten.
