SHE TRIED TO STOP HIM — BUT COULDN’T PREVENT THE YORKSHIRE TIGER TRAGEDY

A desperate attempt to intervene. A moment that unfolded in seconds. And a tragedy that left witnesses deeply shaken.

A heartbreaking eyewitness account has emerged following the death of William Chapman, 24, at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England.

On October 10, witnesses said a woman tried to pull William back as he attempted to climb into the enclosure housing Altai, a Siberian tiger. Despite her efforts, she was unable to stop him from entering.

Witnesses later described the distressing moments as visitors watched events unfold and park staff activated emergency procedures. Emergency services were called, but William was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to reports, the woman was visiting the park with two children when she tried to intervene. Her attempt to stop William was unsuccessful, and he entered the enclosure.

The account has added another painful dimension to an incident that unfolded in front of other visitors. Those who witnessed what happened were left shaken by the experience.

 A FAMILY’S HEARTBREAK

William’s family remembered him as “a bright, warm and engaging young man” who was deeply loved. They also disclosed that he had experienced significant mental health difficulties over a number of years.

At the opening of the inquest, officials heard that his family had raised concerns about his contact with mental health services. The circumstances surrounding his death remain subject to investigation, and the coroner will consider the evidence.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the incident, including questions surrounding park safety. Yorkshire Wildlife Park has confirmed that Altai is safe and will not be euthanised as a result of the incident.
