FATHER RISKED HIS LIFE TO STOP OREGON SCHOOL ATTACKER — KAYLUB GIAMANCO’S BRAVE ACTIONS ARE BEING REMEMBERED

Kaylub Giamanco was on his lunch break when an attack unfolded at the elementary school attended by his two daughters. What happened next placed him at the centre of a tragedy that has devastated an entire community.

A father from Bend, Oregon, is being praised for intervening during the deadly attack at Silver Rail Elementary School, where three children and a teacher lost their lives.

Kaylub Giamanco, 36, was nearby on October 15, 2026, when a 16-year-old attacker opened fire outside the school before entering the building.

According to reports, Giamanco was on his lunch break when he became aware of the unfolding emergency. With his two daughters attending the school, he made the decision to follow the attacker inside.

Police later confirmed that Giamanco shot and killed the teenage suspect, bringing the attack to an end before officers arrived inside the school. His intervention came amid an unfolding emergency that had already claimed innocent lives.

Giamanco was not the only person who attempted to intervene.

According to reports from the Associated Press, teacher Megan Lambert confronted the attacker, throwing her cellphone and attempting to tackle him in an effort to protect the children in her classroom.

Lambert, 25, was among those who died in the attack.

Her actions, alongside Giamanco’s intervention, have drawn attention to the extraordinary risks people faced as they tried to protect the children in their care.

Although it is impossible to know exactly how many additional lives might have been lost had the situation continued, the efforts of those who confronted the attacker became a significant part of the story.

Despite the intervention, the tragedy had already taken a devastating toll.

Three young students, aged 5, 8 and 11, were killed, along with Lambert. Two other people, including a seven-year-old child and a 54-year-old teacher, were seriously injured.

The youngest victim, five-year-old Rhoam Summer, has been remembered by his family as a beloved little boy whose life was cut tragically short.

Families, classmates and residents across Bend are now facing the painful aftermath of an attack that has shaken their sense of safety.

A Father Who Was Not Seeking Recognition

Following the incident, Giamanco’s family released a statement expressing gratitude to emergency responders, school personnel and the wider community for their support.

The family said he was not seeking recognition for his actions.

For Giamanco, the school was not simply a building in his neighbourhood. It was the place where his own daughters spent their school days.

His decision to intervene has prompted widespread discussion about courage, parental instinct and the extraordinary choices ordinary people may face during a crisis.

At the same time, those mourning the victims have emphasised that no act of bravery can erase the loss experienced by the families whose loved ones did not come home.

A Community Left Grieving

The investigation into the attack continues, including questions about the suspect’s actions and how he obtained the firearm.

For the families affected, the immediate priority is grieving their loved ones and supporting those recovering from their injuries.

Giamanco’s actions have become one part of a much larger story of loss, courage and the people who tried to protect children when their school became the scene of an unimaginable tragedy.

As Bend mourns the four victims, the bravery shown by those who intervened is being remembered alongside the lives that were taken.

May the children and teacher who lost their lives rest in peace, and may their families find strength and support in the days ahead.
