My Daughter Announced My Funeral Before I Died—Then I Walked Into the Church With My Lawyer

The Black Folder
The church fell completely silent.

Vanessa staggered backward, knocking over a vase of white roses.

“Mom? That’s impossible!”

I walked slowly toward the coffin.

“Disappointed to see me, sweetheart?”

Her husband rushed forward. “Eleanor, there must be some misunderstanding.”

Richard raised a black folder.

“There’s no misunderstanding. We have recordings, forged documents, and evidence of an attempted $12 million inheritance fraud.”

Vanessa’s face turned pale.

But the worst revelation was still coming.

Richard displayed bank statements showing that Vanessa had secretly borrowed $3 million against my properties using forged signatures.

Then he revealed a second document.

“Mrs. Whitmore changed her estate plan six months ago.”

Vanessa grabbed the pew.

“What do you mean?”

I stepped closer.

“The money you were so desperate to steal will fund a children’s hospital. You will inherit nothing.”

Vanessa began crying.

“Mom, please. I’m your daughter!”

I looked into the eyes of the little girl I had once loved more than life itself.

“Yes. And you buried me for money.”

Two detectives entered through the church doors.

As they approached Vanessa, Richard handed me one final photograph.

It showed my daughter’s husband meeting the man who had forged my death certificate.

Richard leaned toward me.

“Eleanor, there’s something else. Vanessa wasn’t the one who planned this.”

I stared at the photograph.

Because standing behind her husband was someone I recognized immediately.

Someone I had believed was dead for twenty years.

My own younger sister.
