My Husband Said I Was Too Old to Attend His Company Gala—Then the CEO Asked Where I Was

The Woman Who Saved Everything
For a moment, I couldn’t speak.
“Dead?” I whispered.
Thomas sighed.
“Richard told me you passed away five years ago. But I knew something was wrong.”
At the gala, Thomas returned to the microphone.
“Twenty years ago, this company was hours away from bankruptcy,” he announced.
“One woman used her entire inheritance to save our employees and their families.”
Richard stopped smiling.
“That woman was Margaret Wilson.”
The ballroom fell silent.
Thomas continued.
“She never asked for recognition. But she received something more important—a founding ownership agreement granting her thirty percent of this company.”
Richard’s face turned white.
Vanessa slowly removed her hand from his arm.
“And tonight,” Thomas said, “I intended to honor Margaret as our largest individual shareholder.”
Richard stumbled forward.
“That’s impossible! My wife doesn’t own anything!”
Thomas looked directly at him.
“Your wife owns more of this company than you ever will.”
Then the ballroom doors opened.
I stood there wearing my navy-blue gown, the golden oak pin shining against my chest.
Richard stared at me.
“Margaret? What are you doing here?”
I walked past him toward the stage.
Thomas took my hand.
“Welcome home, Margaret.”
I turned toward my husband.
“You were ashamed to bring me tonight, Richard.”
I placed a sealed envelope on the podium.
“But tomorrow morning, you’ll discover something much worse than being seen with an older woman.”
Richard’s eyes widened.
Inside that envelope was the truth about how he had earned his promotion.
And the evidence that could end his career.
