CHRISTA PIKE BREAKS HER SILENCE AFTER BOTCHED EXECUTION: “THERE IS PAIN IN MY MIND AND IN MY SOUL”

The 50-year-old Tennessee inmate says she has been in constant physical and emotional pain since surviving a failed lethal injection on September 30. In her first public statement, she also spoke about the family of the woman she was convicted of killing.

Christa Pike has spoken publicly for the first time since Tennessee’s attempt to execute her ended in a medical emergency, describing what she says has been a constant struggle with pain, confusion and uncertainty.

Pike, 50, survived two doses of the lethal injection drug pentobarbital during an execution attempt at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville on September 30, 2026.

In a statement dictated to her attorneys from the prison infirmary, Pike said she had entered the execution chamber prepared to die peacefully. Instead, she later woke up in a hospital, confused and unaware of what had happened.

Her words offer the first detailed glimpse into her experience since the failed procedure.

Pike described ongoing pain affecting several parts of her body, including her arms, hands and throat.

“There hasn’t been a moment since that night when I haven’t been in pain,” she said.

She added that the suffering extended beyond her physical injuries.

“There is pain in my mind and in my soul,” Pike said, explaining that she still struggles to speak.

Her statement also revealed how unprepared she had been for the possibility of surviving the execution attempt.

Pike said she had never really considered what life might look like beyond the date scheduled for her execution.

The experience has left her facing an uncertain future, with recovery continuing while questions remain about the long-term effects of the procedure.

The failed procedure took place on September 30 at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution.

Pike was administered two doses of pentobarbital as Tennessee attempted to carry out the sentence imposed for the 1995 murder of her former classmate, Colleen Slemmer.

However, the procedure was halted after witnesses reported that Pike was still breathing and had not lost consciousness as expected.

She was transported by ambulance to a hospital, where she initially received critical care and was placed on a ventilator.

Her attorneys later reported that she regained consciousness and began speaking. They also described serious injuries to her arms following the injections.

Pike was discharged from hospital on October 10 and transferred back to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, where she continues to receive medical attention.

PIKE ALSO SPOKE ABOUT HER VICTIM’S FAMILY

One of the most notable parts of Pike’s first public statement was her reference to Colleen Slemmer’s loved ones.

Pike acknowledged the suffering endured by the victim’s family and said she continued to think about their loss.

“I continue to think about my victim’s family and the terrible pain and loss they have endured,” she said.

Slemmer was 19 when she was murdered in January 1995. Pike was 18 at the time
