SIR TOM JONES, 86, FORCED TO POSTPONE THREE U.S. CONCERTS AFTER DOCTORS ORDER HIM TO REST
The legendary singer has revealed he is battling a bad case of the flu, leaving fans concerned after three California performances were rescheduled at short notice.
CALIFORNIA — Music legend Sir Tom Jones has been forced to postpone three upcoming concert appearances in the United States after falling ill with a severe case of the flu.
The 86-year-old Welsh singer announced the changes on social media after receiving medical advice to step away from the stage and give his body more time to recover.
The news came as a surprise to fans who had been following his Come Gather Round World Tour, during which he had already completed 20 performances across the United States.
“I’ve had a great time these last few weeks, completing 20 shows and singing for wonderful audiences across the USA, but unexpectedly I’ve been hit with a bad case of the flu,” Jones wrote in his initial announcement on October 26.
“Following doctor’s advice, I unfortunately have to reschedule tonight’s show in Los Angeles and tomorrow’s show in San Diego.”
THREE SHOWS AFFECTED BY HIS ILLNESS
Initially, two performances were postponed:
- San Diego: Originally scheduled for October 27, now moved to November 3.
- Los Angeles: Originally scheduled for October 26, now moved to November 4.
However, the situation developed further later in the week.
On October 29, Jones announced that he also needed another day of rest and would have to postpone his October 30 performance at Yaamava’ Resort & Casino in Highland, California.
That concert has now been rescheduled for November 6.
The additional postponement prompted further concern among fans, although Jones has not publicly announced any more serious diagnosis beyond the flu.
HIS MESSAGE TO WORRIED FANS
Jones apologized for the disruption and reassured concertgoers that he hoped to return to performing soon.
“I’m truly sorry for any inconvenience caused. I look forward to seeing you all soon,” he told fans.
He also confirmed that tickets purchased for the original dates would remain valid for the rescheduled performances.
Those unable to attend the new dates can contact their original ticket provider to request a refund.
A CAREER THAT HAS SPANNED MORE THAN SIX DECADES
Sir Tom Jones remains one of Britain’s most recognizable musical performers.
Born in Pontypridd, Wales, he rose to international fame with hits including It’s Not Unusual, What’s New Pussycat?, She’s a Lady and Delilah.
His career has spanned more than 60 years, earning him generations of devoted fans around the world.
The singer was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2006 for his services to music.
For now, fans are hoping that a period of rest will allow the legendary performer to recover and return to the stage.
His next scheduled California performances are now set for November 3, 4 and 6.
The immediate priority, however, is his health.
