BORN AT JUST 25 WEEKS AND WEIGHING 1LB 6OZ, BABY BRILYN BEAT INCREDIBLE ODDS AFTER SURGERY LEFT HIM WITH HALF HIS BOWELS REMOVED

Born more than three months early, weighing just 1lb 6oz and measuring only 11 inches long, baby Brilyn entered the world facing a fight no newborn should ever have to endure.
Born on March 7 at just 25 weeks of pregnancy, the tiny boy was initially cared for at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. But at just three weeks old, he was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha after developing a serious infection in his intestines.
Doctors waited as long as they safely could before deciding that emergency surgery was necessary. His family was warned that the outlook was extremely uncertain, with only a 10–15 per cent chance of survival.
The situation was so serious that Brilyn’s sister was allowed to visit him, as the family prepared themselves for the possibility that he might not make it through.

During surgery, doctors removed approximately half of his intestines, along with infected tissue. His remaining bowel was also severely affected, with sections stuck together, meaning he would need a colostomy bag until another operation could be performed when he was around six to nine months old.
To close his abdomen after surgery, doctors used pigskin because some of the surrounding tissue had also been affected by the infection.
And yet, against the frightening odds, little Brilyn pulled through.
His family believes the countless prayers, their faith and the love surrounding him helped carry them through the darkest days. His aunt also shared that Brilyn had a very special guardian angel watching over him — his grandmother, who had passed away in January, just two months before his birth.
For his parents, the experience has been an emotional journey beyond anything they could have imagined.
“There were moments when we were terrified of what tomorrow might bring,” they shared. “But we kept believing, kept praying and held on to hope. Every little improvement felt like a miracle.”
Now, after months of uncertainty and an incredibly difficult start to life, Brilyn has reached another precious milestone.

He recently completed his car seat test, and his medical team began preparing for his possible discharge home on Sunday, provided everything continued to go well.
His family is eagerly counting down the days, hoping to finally bring their little fighter home.
Reflecting on their journey, his aunt shared a powerful message about faith: sometimes life brings challenges far beyond what we believe we can handle, and it is in those moments that we learn to lean on God.
Brilyn’s journey is far from over. Another operation awaits in the months ahead, but for now, his family has something they once feared might never come — the hope of holding him at home.
From a tiny premature newborn facing overwhelming odds to a little fighter preparing for his first journey home, Brilyn has already given his family a reason to believe in miracles.
