Just weeks after being told their daughter had a very small chance of recovery, Khaleesi’s family is marking a moment they once feared might never come. On her fifth birthday, loved ones are celebrating encouraging medical news following a month-long stay on advanced cardiac support.

According to her parents, Khaleesi had been receiving ECMO support as her heart struggled to function on its own. In October, facing an uncertain future, the family reached out to their community and beyond, asking for prayers and positive thoughts that she would live long enough to see her fifth birthday.

“She just wanted to make it to five,” her mother said. “That was our hope, our prayer, and what we held onto every single day.”

This week, that hope became reality. On her birthday, doctors confirmed that Khaleesi had made significant progress. She has been moved out of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and is now stable in the Heart Failure Unit, a transition her family describes as a major milestone.

Her medical team also noted that she has been reduced to near room-air levels on her ECMO oxygenator, an improvement that came sooner than expected. “We were told this would take much longer, if it happened at all,” her father shared. “Seeing her reach this point has been overwhelming in the best way.”

The most surprising update came with her latest echocardiogram. The results showed her heart function had returned to normal levels, surpassing earlier expectations. “When the doctor said ‘normal,’ I had to ask them to repeat it,” her mother recalled. “Not borderline. Not improving. Normal.”

Doctors had previously estimated that such a recovery carried a very small likelihood. Despite that, Khaleesi’s progress has allowed the transplant team to formally accept consent and begin a full evaluation, opening new possibilities for her long-term care.

Her parents attribute the outcome to faith, medical expertise, and the support they received from people around the world. “This has been a reminder that we are not walking this road alone,” her father said. “Every message, every prayer, every thought mattered.”

Now, Khaleesi is celebrating her fifth birthday surrounded by family, hope, and renewed confidence in the future.
