Egypt Discovers Group of Rock-Cut Tombs Dating Back to Old Kingdom

Egyptian archaeologists have uncovered a remarkable group of rock-cut tombs dating back to the Old Kingdom period, one of ancient Egypt’s earliest and most influential eras.

The discovery was announced by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, which said the tombs were found in a historic necropolis and are believed to belong to high-ranking officials and priests. Archaeologists identified detailed carvings, burial shafts, and inscriptions that provide new insights into religious practices and daily life more than 4,000 years ago.

Experts say the find could help historians better understand administrative systems and burial traditions during the Old Kingdom, often referred to as the “Age of the Pyramids,” when many of Egypt’s most famous monuments were constructed.
