A Police Officer Looked a Little Closer—And Saved Eight Tiny Lives

Eight tiny lives are safe today because one police officer chose to take an extra moment and look a little closer. 🐾

Chase Galyon of the Rossville Police Department has become well known among local animal rescuers for something simple but powerful: he always calls when an animal needs help.

Injured dogs, stray cats, even wildlife crossing the road.

If an animal is in trouble, chances are Officer Galyon is already working to make sure someone gets there.

During his patrol shifts, he even keeps dog and cat food in his patrol car so he can feed stray animals he encounters along the way.

And his kindness hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In fact, other officers in the department have started doing the same.

Recently, Officer Galyon responded to a call about a possum that had been hit by a car. While many might have assumed there was nothing more that could be done, he remembered something important.

It was baby season.

So he checked the possum’s pouch.

Inside, he discovered eight tiny babies still clinging to life.

Without hesitation, Officer Galyon carefully gathered them and rushed them to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator at Possumbilities Wildlife Rehabilitation, where the fragile little animals are now receiving warmth, nourishment, and expert care.

Rescuers say that simple decision—to check the pouch—made all the difference.

Those eight babies now have a chance to survive because someone took the time to care.

Around the community, people say Officer Galyon approaches every call with the same mindset.

Whether someone has two legs or four, he’s ready to help.

And sometimes, that compassion can save an entire family.
