The Hero in the Hospital Waiting Room: A Little Boy’s Journey to Strength
Hi everyone! I am João, and if you are looking at the photo, that pensive, serious, and slightly cute face belongs to me. This picture was taken just moments ago in the hospital waiting room. I was sitting here, lost in my own little thoughts, because today is a monumental day for my family and me. Today is the day I am having surgery.

My parents sat me down and explained that the doctors are going to provide some very special technical assistance. They described it like a superhero getting a brand-new, high-tech suit. It is meant to make me even stronger and healthier than I already am. Even though I do not understand all the medical details or the big words the adults are using, I can definitely feel the butterflies fluttering around in my stomach.
To help me through, I have brought my important gear. My blue pacifier is right here, and Mom told me it is actually my superpower amulet. I am also wearing my favorite teddy bear shirt from my football team. I am trying my absolute best to be as brave as that little bear on my chest.
The entire medical team has been incredibly kind so far. They even gave me some colorful bracelets to wear, which makes me feel like I am part of a special club. I know deep down that they are going to take excellent care of me. I keep thinking about how, once this is all over, I will be able to run, jump, and play with more energy than ever before.

However, since I am still quite small, I could really use a little extra support from all of you. Could you please take a moment to leave a blessing or a quick prayer in the comments for me and for the surgeons and nurses who will be working today? Every positive thought and every kind word acts like a boost of strength for my heart. I am heading in now, carrying the courage of my teddy bear and the warmth of your love. I will see you all very soon. Thank you for standing by me.
