Persistence and Preparation: Britain’s Oldest Mother of Triplets Welcomes New Life

At 55 years old, Sharon Cutts has made headlines as Britain’s oldest mother of triplets, welcoming Mason, Ryan, and Lily into the world. A nurse by profession, Sharon ensured she felt at her best during the arrival of her children by maintaining her beauty routine while in the maternity ward. She administered a minimal amount of Botox to herself—noting she was cautious as such treatments are not typically advised during pregnancy—and even briefly left the hospital to have her hair extensions refreshed.

The journey to this miraculous birth was both emotionally and financially demanding for Sharon and her partner, Stuart Reynolds, 40. After menopause had already begun, the couple turned to IVF, eventually traveling to Cyprus for a successful third round of treatment where three embryos implanted. The process involved significant personal loans, including a £15,000 investment for a previous IVF-conceived daughter and an additional £5,000 for this final attempt.

The pregnancy was not without significant medical challenges. Due to her age, Sharon spent 11 weeks in the hospital and faced a health scare at 23 weeks involving bleeding. Although doctors suggested a selective reduction to lower the risks associated with a triple pregnancy, Sharon declined. Ultimately, the babies were delivered via Caesarean section at Nottingham University Hospital, each weighing between 4lbs and 5lbs.

Now home, the couple manages a grueling schedule of dozens of daily feeds and nappy changes. Despite the exhausting routine, Sharon remains committed to her health and fitness, drawing on her history as a marathon runner. She remains a staunch advocate for later-life motherhood, encouraging women to persist in their dreams. While her adult children from a previous relationship had mixed reactions to her age, her daughters are thrilled to welcome their new siblings into the family. Sharon and Stuart’s story stands as a testament to courage and the unwavering commitment to building the family they envisioned together.
