WHAT HAPPENS NEXT FOR THE REMAINING BEAGLES AT RIDGLAN FARMS?

Dane County, Wisconsin – One of the largest beagle rescue operations in U.S. history is still underway, as advocates work tirelessly to free the remaining dogs from Ridglan Farms, a breeding and research facility that has long been criticized for its treatment of animals.

Progress So Far

Rescue teams have already made significant headway:

  • Big Dog Ranch Rescue has completed the removal of 1,000 beagles it purchased from the facility.
  • Center for a Humane Economy is preparing to remove another 500 dogs.

That leaves approximately 500 beagles still inside the facility, awaiting their chance at freedom and a better life.

Plans for the Remaining Dogs

Ridglan Farms has stated:

“Ridglan Farms is in the midst of finalizing arrangements for the remaining dogs.”

Big Dog Ranch Rescue founder and CEO Lauree Simmons expressed cautious optimism:

“They know we want them. They know we’re not giving up on them,” Simmons said.
“And if we can’t get them out the right way, this way, the most structured, safest way, I am very confident the federal government… is going to very soon pull that trigger and say no more testing on animals.”

A First Taste of Freedom

For the beagles already removed, life outside the facility is a revelation. Many are experiencing simple joys for the first time:

  •  Feeling grass beneath their paws
  •  Breathing fresh air
  •  Receiving human affection
  •  The possibility of a permanent, loving home

For advocates who have followed the story for years, the ongoing rescue effort feels historic and groundbreaking—a rare moment of hope for animals long confined to laboratories.

The Mission Isn’t Over

While hundreds of beagles have been saved, animal advocates stress that the work is far from finished. The remaining 500 dogs are still in need of rescue, and the operation’s success may depend on continued public attention, federal action, and coordination among animal welfare groups.

For many supporters, Ridglan Farms has become a symbol of both cruelty and hope—showing how persistent advocacy and community action can change the lives of hundreds of innocent animals.
