Faizon Love Arrested in Florida on Contempt of Court Charges Tied to Paternity Case

Actor Faizon Love, best known for his roles in the holiday classic Elf and the cult comedy Friday, has been arrested in Florida on two counts of contempt of court.

The 58-year-old actor was taken into custody Tuesday in Hillsborough County on a warrant for allegedly violating a court order related to a paternity case. He is currently being held without bond at Orient Road Jail in Tampa.

Love appeared haggard and expressionless in his mugshot released by authorities.

Previous Legal Troubles

This is not the first time Faizon Love has faced legal issues. In 2017, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor assault charge after being caught on camera attacking a valet at John Glenn Columbus International Airport in Ohio. He was fined $500 and received a 180-day suspended jail sentence.

More recently, in August 2024, Love was accused of felony assault at the Sheraton Mission Valley hotel in San Diego. According to police, after a female clerk informed him that the room he had booked through a third-party app was unavailable, Love allegedly ripped a credit card machine from its mount and threw it at her head, breaking her glasses. The clerk later filed a lawsuit against him seeking damages for medical bills and emotional distress.

Current Situation

Love, who resides in Glendale, California, was arrested in connection with an ongoing paternity matter. Details regarding the specific court order he allegedly violated have not been publicly disclosed. A representative for the actor could not immediately be reached for comment.

The arrest comes as Love continues to be recognized for his comedic roles in films such as The Replacements and Couples Retreat, though his legal troubles have occasionally overshadowed his career in recent years.

What’s Next

Love remains in custody as the legal process moves forward. It is unclear at this stage whether he will face additional charges beyond the contempt allegations or how the paternity case will proceed.

As with previous incidents, the latest arrest has drawn renewed attention to Love’s history of legal issues and public behavior.
