A Young Footballer Thought It Was Only the Flu, but a Life-Threatening Infection Changed His Future and Forced Him to Fight for Survival
At first, it seemed like an ordinary case of the flu.
Levi Dewey, a young British man in his early twenties and an amateur footballer for Willington FC, went to the hospital after experiencing symptoms that many people might have mistaken for a common seasonal illness. But what began as something that appeared routine quickly turned into a life-threatening medical emergency.

Doctors later discovered that Levi was suffering from Influenza B and pneumonia. The combination placed his body under extreme stress and triggered sepsis, followed by septic shock. His condition deteriorated so rapidly that medical staff feared he might not survive. At one point, he was reportedly given less than a 30 percent chance of living.
To save his life, doctors had to make an agonizing decision. Because of the severe damage caused to his body, both of Levi’s legs were amputated below the knees.
He spent a long period in the hospital and intensive care, facing a battle no young person ever expects to endure. But against terrifying odds, Levi survived.

His recovery did not end when he left the hospital. A new journey began: learning to live with prosthetic legs, rebuilding strength, and adapting to a completely changed reality. With the support of his family, friends, football community, and fundraising campaigns, Levi began taking steps toward a new chapter.
His story is heartbreaking, but it is also a powerful reminder of resilience, medical urgency, and the strength it takes to keep moving forward after life changes forever.
