Heartbroken Teen Brings A Shoebox Into The Hospital Leaving This Experienced Neonatal Nurse Completely Stunned By What Was Hidden Safely Inside The Cardboard
For over two decades, Jenny Joseph worked as a neonatal nurse at the Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. Over the years, she had seen and heard many unusual stories about how babies were brought into this world. However, on April 24, 2004, she became part of a unique story that began with a simple shoebox.

While working in the special care nursery, Jenny was called to the emergency department. Down the hallway, she noticed a teary-eyed teenage boy in a hoodie holding a shoebox. When Jenny looked inside, she was shocked. Wrapped in a dish towel and wearing a doll’s onesie was a tiny, three-pound baby boy. The hospital staff immediately put the infant in isolation to stabilize him.
Seeing that the teen had stayed and cried for three hours, Jenny approached him. He explained they wanted to utilize the safe haven law to leave the baby in a safe place. Jenny informed him that once he relinquished parental rights, she could not provide updates. She gave him two parental bracelets, urging him to think it over.

Later, the boy returned with his girlfriend, Cherish Coates. Cherish was visibly upset and ashamed. Jenny comforted her, saying, “You did everything right. You saved this baby’s life.” A bond instantly formed. Cherish confessed she hid the pregnancy because her family expected her to go to college. Her mother had her at 15, and Cherish did not want to disappoint the grandparents who raised her.
She endured labor alone in her room, calling her boyfriend only after giving birth. He climbed a ladder to her room, and together, terrified, they placed the baby in the box with a Winnie the Pooh doll and a note: “We love you, we’re just not able to raise you. We want his name to be Alan Corey…”
