Shirtless Teen Infuriates Paris by Charging Cyclists £1.70 or Squirting Them with a Water Gun at His Own ‘Customs’

A 14-year-old shirtless boy named Hamza has become a viral nuisance in Paris, setting up an unofficial “customs post” along the popular Canal Saint-Martin where he demands money from passing cyclists or blasts them with his water pistol.
According to reports, Hamza stops cyclists and offers a simple deal: pay him two euros (roughly £1.70) and he lets them pass dry. Refuse, and they get soaked. He has been filmed carrying out the prank repeatedly during the recent heatwave, terrorising locals and visitors alike along the scenic canal area.

The teenager, often seen shirtless and zipping around on an electric scooter with a chair attached, claims he was inspired by corrupt customs officers in Algeria. In an interview with Le Parisien, he explained: “In Algeria … when you pay the customs officers, they don’t search you … you can go on. I’ve got the same idea.”
Hamza has also been caught on camera pushing people into the canal, spraying police officers, drivers, and pedestrians. Despite being arrested at least once on suspicion of group violence and vandalism, he shrugged off the experience, joking that the best part of custody was the air conditioning.

Far from being universally hated, the cheeky teen has gained a strange kind of celebrity status. Fans now approach him for photos, and he proudly declares, “I’m a star.” In one interview with BFM TV, Hamza said: “I make people laugh, even mums come and take their photos with me.”
His father has defended him, calling him “a nice boy” who “doesn’t hurt anyone,” while his mother reportedly remains unaware of his antics. Not everyone is amused, however. Local business owners have complained that he is “bothering everyone” and disturbing the area.

Hamza is reportedly already known to police for around 10 alleged offences since last year. His water-gun “customs” operation has sparked a mix of outrage, eye-rolling, and reluctant amusement across Paris.
The story highlights the chaotic side of street life in the French capital during the summer heat, where one bold teenager has turned petty extortion into a bizarre form of viral entertainment.
