7-Year-Old Girl Faces Long Recovery After Being Attacked by Multiple Dogs in California

A 7-year-old California girl named Patricia is recovering at home after suffering severe injuries, including the loss of her scalp, in a dog attack on June 27 near Corning, California.
According to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, the attack occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the area of Barham Avenue and Bosque Avenue. Patricia sustained significant injuries to her scalp and legs. She was initially taken to a local hospital and then airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center for emergency surgery.
Patricia’s grandmother, Monica Edmiston, launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the family. In the fundraiser description, she wrote: “The dogs ripped her scalp off and left her with numerous wounds all over her body.” She praised Patricia as “an incredibly strong little girl” whose resilience is inspiring everyone around her.

Patricia was discharged from the hospital on June 30 and returned home. Her family described the road ahead as a “long recovery,” noting that her father and brothers stayed by her side during her hospitalization, even sleeping in their car in Sacramento to remain close.
Six dogs believed to be involved in the attack were seized as evidence and taken to the Tehama County Animal Shelter. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests or citations have been reported so far.

The Corning Union Elementary School District, where Patricia is a student, publicly shared a message of support wishing her a full recovery.
As of the latest update, the GoFundMe has raised more than its original $3,000 goal (over $4,100) to help cover medical expenses, gas, food, and other necessities during Patricia’s recovery.
This is a tragic incident highlighting the serious risks of dog attacks, especially for young children. Patricia’s strength and her family’s determination are truly admirable as they navigate the challenging recovery process ahead.
