BORN WITH SURFACTANT B DEFICIENCY, KYLIE’S FIGHT TO PROTECT HER NEW LUNGS SHOWS A STRENGTH FAR BEYOND HER TINY BODY

Born on November 10, 2023, baby Kylie entered the world facing a battle no child should ever have to fight. She was diagnosed with Surfactant B deficiency, a rare and life-threatening genetic condition that made it impossible for her lungs to function properly.
For Kylie, there was only one шанс at survival — a double lung transplant.

On April 17, 2024, that miracle finally came. Kylie received new lungs, giving her family hope for a brighter future. But the journey since then has been anything but easy.
Today, Kylie is back in the hospital.
Doctors have discovered fluid in her lungs along with signs of serious organ rejection — a dangerous complication that can threaten her life. She now depends on oxygen 24 hours a day as her medical team works urgently to protect the precious gift she was given.

Despite everything, Kylie continues to fight with incredible strength.
“She’s our little warrior princess,” her family shared. “Every single day, she shows us what true strength looks like.”
Behind her fight is a family carrying more than most could imagine.

Kylie has two older siblings who also need constant care. Her sister is on the autism spectrum, and her brother is nonverbal and also requires specialized support. Both children attend programs and therapies tailored to their needs.
Their mother, Ashley, stays home full-time, dedicating every moment to caring for all three children — managing hospital stays, therapies, medications, and countless medical appointments.
Their father, Jakob, works tirelessly as the sole provider. He recently changed jobs to ensure more stability for the family. But just as they began adjusting, another unexpected hardship arrived.

Their landlord informed them that their home is being sold.
Now, the family is facing the painful reality of having to move while Kylie remains hospitalized, fighting for her life.
“We’re trying to stay strong, but everything feels like it’s happening all at once,” the family shared. “All we want is to be by Kylie’s side and get through this together.”

In addition to daily challenges, the family must travel frequently between Virginia and Washington, DC for specialized care and therapies. They also make critical trips to Texas Children’s Hospital, where Kylie’s transplant was performed, for ongoing follow-ups and life-saving treatment.
These long-distance journeys, combined with medical expenses and time away from work, have created overwhelming financial pressure.
Still, through it all, their focus remains on Kylie.
“We are so grateful for the gift she’s been given,” they said. “We’re not giving up. She’s not giving up.”
