Police Release Eerie New CCTV Footage of Missing Brazilian Woman Four Months After Disappearance

Vitoria Figueiredo Barreto, a 31-year-old Brazilian psychologist and academic, vanished in Essex, UK, after visiting a friend at the University of Essex in Colchester on March 3. She was reported missing the following day, March 4.

Essex Police have now released previously unseen CCTV footage tracing her last known movements through the seaside town of Brightlingsea on March 3 and into the early hours of March 4 — more than four months after she disappeared.

Key Details from the New Footage:

  • The video combines multiple CCTV clips and images showing a woman whom detectives strongly believe is Vitoria.
  • She was captured walking across a field south of Hurst Green.
  • Later footage (around 00:16 on March 4) shows a person believed to be her jumping over a fence into a boatyard.
  • A boat from the yard was later found adrift near Bradwell-on-Sea.

Despite extensive searches, analysis of her phone and financial records, and appeals, no trace of Vitoria has been found. There is no evidence of significant activity on her accounts after she went missing.

Detective Superintendent Anna Granger said:

“While significant investigative work has taken place over the past four months, we know that for those closest to Vitoria every day without answers is incredibly difficult… 120 days is a significant milestone, but for Vitoria’s family and friends we know it is yet another day without the person they love.”

She urged the public not to forget the case and to come forward with any information, no matter how small.

Vitoria’s family in Brazil and the UK continue to be supported by police as the investigation remains active.
