From Hollywood Red Carpets to River Plunges & Endless Summer BBQs: Ali Larter Reveals Why She Ditched LA for a Blissfully ‘Simpler’ Life in Sun Valley, Idaho – “My Heart Is Full”

In the high-pressure world of Hollywood, where fame, flash, and non-stop obligations often come at the cost of family time, actress Ali Larter has made a bold, refreshing choice that’s inspiring parents everywhere: she walked away from the chaos for something far more precious.

The stunning star of the hit Paramount+ series Landman (where she plays the fiery, “wildcat” Angela opposite Billy Bob Thornton) recently opened up about her transformed life in Sun Valley, Idaho – and it sounds like pure paradise.

Speaking at the Newport Beach TV Fest, Larter painted a picture of her dreamy summer days that couldn’t be further from her former LA routine. “It’s totally different,” she said with a radiant smile. “We can’t really get our kids to hike anymore… But I can get them to take a bike ride and then do a little cold plunge in the river.”

She continued, glowing: “We love to barbecue at our house. We love to play with our dogs. My daughter will probably play some volleyball. We’ll go to Leroy’s and get an ice cream cone. It’s just kind of simpler, and the days are really long. The sun’s out till like 10 at night now, so it’s been really beautiful to kind of have the kids out of school and enjoy the time with them.”

This idyllic existence is a far cry from the whirlwind she left behind. Larter, her husband (actor and comedian Hayes MacArthur), son Teddy (15), and daughter Vivienne (11) first headed to Idaho in 2020 during the pandemic lockdowns, initially planning just a two-month stay while hoping California schools would reopen.

Instead, they discovered something magical: their young daughter could finally attend in-person kindergarten, the family bonded on ski slopes, made genuine local friends through school, and experienced the joy of simply being together without the constant pull of auditions, red-carpet events, and Hollywood obligations.

After briefly returning to LA one summer and feeling the overwhelming demands of the industry once again, the family made the life-changing decision to commit fully to Idaho.

“We just didn’t want to do that,” Larter explained honestly. “We wanna be with our children.” While she still holds deep affection for Los Angeles (“My heart will always be there”), the pull of raising grounded, happy kids in nature proved stronger.

Now, instead of navigating traffic to endless meetings or squeezing in charity galas between shoots, Larter’s days revolve around what truly matters: quality family time in one of America’s most beautiful mountain communities. Long sunlit evenings, outdoor adventures, home-cooked meals on the grill, playful moments with the dogs, and those simple pleasures like ending the day with ice cream under a sky that refuses to darken early.

Even as she promotes Landman – where her character brings fierce energy and complexity – Larter admits she sometimes wishes she could channel a bit more of Angela’s “wildcat” spirit into her own wonderfully balanced life.

This heartfelt pivot comes at a perfect moment, as more celebrities quietly seek balance away from the spotlight. Ali Larter’s story beautifully illustrates that you can still thrive in your career while creating a deeply fulfilling home life – sometimes you just need to trade the bright lights of the city for the crisp mountain air and endless summer sunsets.

In a world obsessed with hustle, her courageous choice to prioritize presence over prestige is both relatable and aspirational. It’s a powerful reminder that the most rewarding roles we’ll ever play aren’t always on screen – they’re the ones we create at home with the people we love most.

Here’s to more stars (and all of us) finding our own version of simpler, happier, and more meaningful living – wherever that may be.
