ONE MONTH LATER: SHERIFF SPEAKS OUT ON JAVEAYAH HARRIS CASE
AIKEN COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — One month after the case of 4-year-old Javeayah Harris shocked the community, Sheriff Marty Sawyer has spoken publicly about what he described as one of the most difficult investigations of his career.
Investigators searched nearly 5,000 acres during the effort to locate Javeayah. Authorities later announced that some of her remains had been recovered at Cedar Creek Reservoir in Fairfield County.
Investigation Continues
Sheriff Sawyer said investigators do not currently expect to recover additional remains from that location, while information provided by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the FBI continues to be reviewed and forwarded to prosecutors.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding Javeayah’s disappearance and death.
Community Remembers Javeayah
The case has also brought an extraordinary response from the local community.
Hundreds of people attended vigils and left flowers, balloons, stuffed animals, and messages outside Javeayah’s home as residents came together to remember the young girl.
