In the early hours of September 2019, 31-year-old Swedish mother Emma Schols faced a nightmare no parent could ever imagine: a raging house fire had trapped all six of her children inside.

The fire erupted suddenly, leaving Emma with almost no time to think. Her two youngest sons were trapped downstairs, surrounded by smoke and flames. Without hesitation, she rushed into the burning home, managed to get them out, and brought them to safety. She then secured the front door, fearing the terrified children might instinctively try to run back inside.

Four of her children were still trapped upstairs. Despite the smoke, heat, and rapidly worsening conditions, she turned around and entered the burning house for a second time. She fought her way through the dangerous environment, desperately searching for her children and bringing them toward safety.

Then she realized her youngest daughter, Mollie, was still missing.

With the situation becoming increasingly dangerous, Emma went back into the burning house for a third time. She searched through the smoke and destruction until she finally reached her baby and ensured that Mollie was brought to safety.

By the time Emma emerged from the fire, she was critically injured and had suffered extensive, life-threatening burns. She was rushed for emergency treatment and spent weeks in intensive care, facing numerous surgeries and a long, painful recovery.

Yet when Emma eventually regained consciousness, her first concern was not her own condition. Her thoughts immediately turned to the children.

“Are the children alive?” she asked.

They were.

All six of Emma’s children had survived the fire because their mother had repeatedly risked her own life to reach them. Her extraordinary actions transformed a devastating family tragedy into a story of remarkable courage and sacrifice.
