Body of Missing 5-Year-Old Boy Recovered From Hillsborough County Pond

Body of 5-Year-Old Boy Found in Florida Retention Pond After Disappearance
A heartbreaking search for a 5-year-old non-verbal boy with autism ended in tragedy after his body was discovered in a retention pond behind his apartment complex in Florida.
The child was reported missing on the morning of August 7. He was last seen around 5 a.m. at his apartment in the Northdale/Carrollwood area.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., the family contacted police after discovering that the boy was no longer inside the home. Investigators also found that the rear screen door appeared to have been breached or opened.
Authorities immediately launched an extensive search operation. More than 140 law enforcement officers, along with K-9 teams, drones, aviation units, and dive teams, participated in efforts to locate the missing child.
The search ultimately led investigators to a retention pond directly behind the apartment complex, where the boy’s body was found.
The tragic discovery has devastated the child’s family and community. Because the boy was non-verbal, authorities and relatives faced additional challenges in determining where he might have gone after leaving the apartment.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff also highlighted a disturbing detail surrounding the tragedy, stating that this was the second reported case in less than two months involving a 5-year-old autistic child drowning at the same apartment complex.

The circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the exact sequence of events, including how the child left the apartment and entered the retention pond.
The tragedy has also raised renewed concerns about safety measures around bodies of water near residential communities, particularly for families caring for children who may wander or have difficulty communicating.
For the family, however, the immediate priority is mourning the loss of a young child whose life ended far too soon.
The investigation continues as authorities work to establish exactly what happened during the hours between the boy’s disappearance and the discovery of his body.
