THEY WENT TO A CONCERT TO CELEBRATE A TEEN’S BIRTHDAY — HOURS LATER, A MOTHER AND HER TWO DAUGHTERS WERE DEAD

BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — What was supposed to be a night of music and family celebration ended in an unimaginable tragedy when a mother and her two teenage daughters were killed in a fiery three-vehicle crash on a California highway.

The family had traveled to Fresno to attend a concert celebrating Kloie’s upcoming 17th birthday. On their drive home early Sunday morning, their Honda Accord became involved in a devastating collision on Highway 99 near Bakersfield.

According to a family fundraising campaign, the victims were Vanessa and her daughters Kloie and Kylie.

They had spent the evening at Fresno’s Save Mart Center, where they attended a concert featuring Thee Sacred Souls, La Lom and the Womack Sisters.

It was supposed to be a special night for Kloie as she approached her 17th birthday.

Instead, the family never made it home.

At approximately 12:44 a.m. Sunday, their Honda Accord collided with two other vehicles on Highway 99 north of 7th Standard Road near Bakersfield.

California Highway Patrol investigators said one of the vehicles was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the collision occurred.

Investigators have not yet determined which vehicle was traveling the wrong way.

The crash involved a 2019 BMW 530i, a 2022 Chevrolet Colorado and the Honda Accord carrying Vanessa and her two daughters.

The Honda caught fire after the collision.

All three family members died at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the wrong-way driving remain under investigation.

Authorities have also said they have not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.

A FAMILY LEFT BEHIND

Vanessa leaves behind a son.

Kloie and Kylie also leave behind a younger brother — making the loss even more devastating for a family that had gathered only hours earlier to celebrate one of the girls.

According to the family fundraiser, the surviving brother’s 16th birthday falls on the same day as Kloie’s birthday.

A day that should have been filled with celebration has now become a painful reminder of the three lives lost.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to help with funeral and memorial expenses, immediate family needs and support for the surviving son.

THE QUESTIONS INVESTIGATORS STILL HAVE TO ANSWER

The crash has left investigators with several critical questions.

Why was one vehicle traveling in the wrong direction?

How long had it been traveling against traffic?

And could anything have prevented the collision?

For now, officials have not publicly determined exactly why the wrong-way vehicle entered the southbound lanes.

The investigation remains active.

But for the family, the investigation cannot change what happened.

A mother and two daughters left a concert together.

They were supposed to return home together.

Instead, their family is now planning three funerals.

A birthday celebration became a final family memory — and a California highway became the scene of an unimaginable loss.

Authorities have not yet determined which vehicle was traveling the wrong way or whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
