Lindsay Clancy Trial Enters Final Phase as Defense Focuses on Postpartum Psychosis

Lindsay Clancy is on trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, in connection with the deaths of her three children in January 2023.

The defense argues that Clancy was suffering from postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder, with her condition allegedly worsened by the effects of multiple psychiatric medications. Attorneys contend that these factors left her not criminally responsible at the time of the incident.

Forensic psychologist Paul Zeizel testified for the defense, stating that Clancy lacked criminal responsibility because of severe mental illness.

Prosecutors have presented a contrasting argument, maintaining that Clancy’s actions were intentional. They have also challenged aspects of the evidence supporting the defense’s claim that she was experiencing psychosis.

On August 20, 2026, the trial entered its final phase. The defense has additionally asked jurors to consider involuntary manslaughter as an alternative charge.

Closing arguments are expected to begin early next week, after the defense completes its remaining presentation.

No verdict has been reached, and the question of Clancy’s criminal responsibility remains with the jury.
