Husband Faces Murder Charge After Colorado Wife’s Death Was First Ruled a Suicide

A Colorado husband is facing a murder charge after his wife’s death, initially believed to be a suicide, came under renewed scrutiny by investigators.

The victim was Lindsey Barnett, a teacher and mother of two who had recently given birth. She was found dead at her home on August 13, 2026.

Her husband, Patrick Theodore Barnett, 40, of Lakewood, initially told investigators that Lindsey had been struggling with postpartum depression and had taken her own life.

However, investigators later identified several details that raised questions about the original conclusion. Authorities reportedly found bruising consistent with defensive injuries, bloodstains, and footprints at the scene.

Investigators also learned that Patrick was allegedly having an affair and had told his mistress that Lindsey intended to die by suicide.

Following the investigation, Patrick was arrested and charged with murder. He is being held without bail and was scheduled to appear in court on August 20, 2026.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against Patrick have not been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless found guilty.
