8-Year-Old Massachusetts Boy Dies After Falling Tree Strikes Him at Summer Camp

An 8-year-old Massachusetts boy, Mason Sundberg, died after a large tree fell on him while he was attending summer camp in Wayland.

The incident happened on the morning of August 18, 2026, at YMCA Camp Chickami. Mason, who was from Sudbury, was seriously injured when the tree struck him.

He was airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries.

An adult camp staff member was also injured in the incident but was subsequently released from the hospital.

Mason’s family described him as a happy, humorous, and affectionate boy, remembering the joy and warmth he brought to those around him.

“His brightness will be missed, but never forgotten,” his family said.

The tragedy has left Mason’s family, friends, and the Camp Chickami community mourning the loss of a young life cut short in a devastating accident.
