FLIGHT ATTENDANT MOM FOUND DEAD DURING HAWAII LAYOVER — FAMILY SAYS “THE TIMELINE DOESN’T MAKE SENSE”

HONOLULU, Hawaii — A routine work layover in paradise has turned into a heartbreaking mystery after Jenny Lupton, a 50-year-old Southwest Airlines flight attendant and mother from Moore, Oklahoma, was found dead at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.

Lupton was found on Aug. 20, after apparently falling from the balcony of her 24th-floor hotel room, according to information her family says they received from the Honolulu medical examiner. But Honolulu police have emphasized that no official conclusion has been reached about the manner of her death.

Now, detectives are reviewing surveillance footage, conducting interviews and examining evidence as Lupton’s family searches for answers.

HER FINAL HOURS APPEARED COMPLETELY ORDINARY

Lupton had traveled to Hawaii for work and planned to remain there for several days before returning home.

According to her sister, Tresa Lupton, Jenny spent part of her final evening with another flight attendant. They went out dancing and enjoyed their time together.

She also got a new tattoo — a hibiscus flower that had special meaning to the family and was connected to their late father.

Jenny reportedly told relatives that she planned to have the tattoo finished with color after returning to Oklahoma.

Those conversations have become especially significant to her family because they occurred only hours before her death.

THEN SHE WAS FOUND OUTSIDE THE HOTEL

A hotel employee discovered Lupton’s body outside the resort on Aug. 20.

Her family was told that she appeared to have fallen from the 24th floor, landing near a waste or trash area below the hotel.

But that information does not answer the most important question:

Why did she fall?

Honolulu police have not publicly determined whether the incident was accidental, intentional or involved another person.

The department has classified the case as an unattended death investigation and assigned its Homicide Detail to investigate the circumstances.

POLICE ARE NOW REVIEWING SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE

Investigators have reportedly begun examining a large amount of surveillance footage from around the hotel and surrounding area.

Police confirmed that detectives are:

• Conducting interviews
• Reviewing and recovering surveillance video
• Examining physical evidence
• Working closely with Lupton’s family

Authorities have deliberately withheld some information while the investigation continues, saying they want to protect the integrity of the case.

Family members have reportedly been told that there are more than 70 cameras in the surrounding area that could potentially help investigators reconstruct Jenny’s final movements.

HER FAMILY DOESN’T BELIEVE SHE INTENTIONALLY HARMED HERSELF

Jenny’s relatives have publicly questioned the possibility that she intentionally ended her life.

Her niece, Hannah Lupton, said the family has no reason to believe Jenny was suicidal and pointed to her recent plans and conversations as reasons they are struggling to understand what happened.

Jenny was also the mother of a 15-year-old son, whom her family says was extremely important to her.

The family has therefore asked for a thorough investigation rather than accepting an explanation before all the evidence has been reviewed.

Importantly, police have not announced that foul play occurred, and no such conclusion has been established.

Lupton had spent approximately 29 years working as a flight attendant, according to her family, including many years with Southwest Airlines.

She was remembered as energetic, warm and full of personality — someone who loved traveling and had built a life around both her career and her family.

Her niece Hannah had even followed in her footsteps and became a flight attendant herself, inspired in part by her aunt.

Southwest Airlines confirmed Lupton’s death and said the company was supporting her family and coworkers while cooperating with authorities.

WHY THE CASE HAS RAISED SO MANY QUESTIONS

For investigators, the challenge is reconstructing the period between Jenny’s last known activities and the discovery of her body.

Her family knows she:

went out with a colleague,

danced,

got a meaningful tattoo,

spoke with relatives about returning home,
