Couple Arrested in Mexico in Connection With Death of California Teacher Geoffrey Bernardi

A California couple accused of involvement in the death of Geoffrey “Geoff” Bernardi, a career technical education teacher, has been arrested in Mexico after an investigation that lasted approximately eight months.

Bernardi, 37, worked for the Clovis Unified School District in California. He was severely assaulted in Clovis during the early morning hours of December 18, 2025, and died two days later from his injuries.

Authorities identified Antonio Garcia, 40, and Misty Gomez, 32, as suspects in connection with Bernardi’s death.

Investigators reportedly discovered that Gomez had been Bernardi’s girlfriend while she was still married to Garcia, a detail that became part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal assault.

After an approximately eight-month investigation, U.S. Marshals arrested Garcia and Gomez in Mexico on August 19, 2026. They were subsequently returned to California to face criminal charges.

Bail for both suspects has been set at $1 million each.

The allegations against Garcia and Gomez have not been proven in court, and the case will proceed through the legal system as authorities continue to examine the circumstances that led to Bernardi’s death.
