BORN WITHOUT LEGS, SHE TURNED A SIMPLE CHILDHOOD ACTIVITY INTO AN INSPIRING JOURNEY OF INCLUSION AND HOPE
When Paige Calendine entered a gymnastics class in Zanesville, Ohio, at just eighteen months old, her parents were not dreaming of championship medals or international fame. Born without legs, Paige was introduced to the sport simply so she could build physical strength, explore movement, and enjoy playing alongside other toddlers. However, what began as a modest therapy alternative quickly evolved into a lifelong passion. The gym became a space of pure possibility where Paige adapted standard routines, using her own unique balance, creativity, and inner drive to master bars, floor exercises, and complex flips.

As she grew, Paige transitioned from local classes to state and national competitions, earning numerous medals and proving that sports can be adapted for every body. Her impact extended far beyond competition; in 2024, she performed at a Gymnastics for All event during the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials, demonstrating the vital importance of inclusion to coaches and audiences worldwide. Her story reached millions through viral videos and the acclaimed documentary Built Different.

By 2025, at age fourteen, the physical demands of high-level competition led Paige to step away from competitive gymnastics. Rather than stopping, she redirected her energy into cheer, swimming, basketball, and returning to her childhood gym as a youth coach. Today, Paige aspires to become a pediatrician, continuing her mission to support and empower the next generation. Ultimately, Paige’s legacy is not measured by trophies, but by the doors she opened, showing every child that they belong.
