MIDDLESBROUGH, England — A family is demanding answers after a devastating house fire claimed the lives of 7-year-old Valentina Foster and her 34-year-old aunt, Natalie McDonald, during the school holidays.

The blaze broke out early Wednesday morning at a home on Birchington Avenue in Grangetown, near Middlesbrough. Emergency crews were called to the property at approximately 5:23 a.m., where they found a scene that would leave the entire community shaken.

A LITTLE GIRL AND HER AUNT

Valentina, affectionately known as Tina, had reportedly been staying with her aunt during the school break.

McDonald’s mother, Lisa Kirton, described her daughter as a “beautiful, bubbly person” and Valentina as a “very cute girl,” highlighting the devastating loss now facing their family.

The tragedy has left relatives struggling to understand how an ordinary family visit could end so suddenly.

McDonald’s brother, Josh Kirton, has also stressed that his sister had no involvement with gangs or the violence surrounding recent events in the area.

TWO MEN ARRESTED

Cleveland Police have arrested two men, ages 23 and 31, on suspicion of murder in connection with the fire.

Both remain in police custody while investigators work to establish exactly what happened.

A 48-year-old woman remains in critical condition, while three other people suffered injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation continues.

POSSIBLE LINK TO A66 CRASH UNDER INVESTIGATION

The fire occurred less than a mile from the site of the deadly A66 crash, which claimed the lives of seven people, including two Cleveland Police officers, just days earlier.

Superintendent Emily Harrison said police are keeping an open mind and cannot rule out links to wider organized crime at this stage. However, authorities have not confirmed that the fire and the A66 crash are directly connected.

Neighbors described the intensity of the blaze, with one resident saying the house was so hot that people could not get close enough to reach those inside.

Tributes have since appeared near the scene, with flowers and messages honoring Valentina and Natalie.
