NANCY GUTHRIE CASE TAKES ANOTHER TURN — INVESTIGATORS STILL SEARCHING FOR THE BREAKTHROUGH

Nearly seven months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home, investigators are still working to uncover what happened to the 84-year-old mother of Today anchor Savannah Guthrie.

The case remains active, with a dedicated task force involving local detectives and FBI agents continuing to work on it. Crime reporter Brian Entin recently said investigators remain focused on the case every day and that advances in DNA technology could eventually provide a breakthrough.

TWO DISTURBING NOTES

In July, authorities released details of two ransom notes connected to the investigation.

One sought a ransom, while another claimed that Nancy had been taken and was “buried in nature.”

Authorities said the notes contained distinctive patterns of wording, syntax and phraseology and released them in the hope that someone might recognize the writer.

But investigators have warned against treating the notes as proof of what happened to Nancy.

A viral claim that federal authorities had confirmed her death was not supported by officials. Nancy remains officially missing, and there has been no public confirmation that her remains have been found.

A POTENTIAL DNA CLUE FAILED TO PROVIDE ANSWERS

Investigators also examined a hair sample recovered at Nancy’s home.

However, testing produced no usable result and did not identify a suspect, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

That means one potentially important piece of forensic evidence has so far failed to provide the breakthrough investigators were hoping for.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES

Authorities have previously released surveillance footage showing a masked individual near Nancy’s home around the time of her disappearance.

Despite months of investigation, no suspect has publicly been identified.

A reward of more than $1 million remains available for information that could help bring the case closer to a resolution.

Nancy disappeared on February 1.
