Seven years after abruptly disappearing from Instagram during one of the most difficult periods of her public life, Lori Loughlin has returned — and she chose a very familiar piece of television history to announce it.

The 62-year-old actress reappeared on the social media platform on Monday, Aug. 31, turning to several of her longtime Full House costars to help make the moment feel more like a reunion than a conventional celebrity comeback.

Instead of directly addressing the years she had spent away from Instagram, Loughlin leaned into nostalgia.

“Wake up, San Francisco! I’m back on IG,” she wrote alongside her return post, referencing the fictional morning television program that was part of her character Rebecca Donaldson’s story on Full House.

For fans who remember Aunt Becky, the reference was unmistakable.

A ‘Full House’ Reunion Marked Her Return

Loughlin’s announcement featured appearances from a large group of familiar faces connected to the beloved sitcom.

John Stamos, Jodie Sweetin, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Scott Weinger and Andrea Barber all took part as Loughlin recreated a memorable Full House television moment.

The sequence played off Becky Donaldson’s return to Wake Up, San Francisco following maternity leave. Loughlin lip-synced to the old scene, humorously welcoming herself back to the fictional program.

There was also a poignant connection to the show’s past.

The video included a clip of the late Bob Saget making his own Wake Up, San Francisco introduction before cutting back to Loughlin as Rebecca Donaldson.

Loughlin and her now-estranged husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, became two of the most recognizable figures connected to the case.

The allegations centered on the college admissions of their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella Rose Giannulli.

Authorities accused the couple of paying $500,000 in connection with getting their daughters admitted to the University of Southern California. Their daughters were falsely presented as recruits for USC’s crew team despite neither having participated in the sport.

The case quickly became a major chapter in Loughlin’s life, moving far beyond headlines and eventually leading to criminal convictions and prison sentences.

In May 2020, Loughlin and Giannulli pleaded guilty to charges involving wire and mail fraud.

Loughlin was ultimately sentenced to two months in federal prison. She was released in December 2020 after serving nearly all of that sentence.

Giannulli received a five-month prison sentence in August 2020.
