AFTER TWELVE YEARS OF WAITING, AN ETHIOPIAN WOMAN NATURALLY WELCOMES QUINTUPLETS

For more than a decade, one woman held on to a single, simple prayer, never imagining it would be answered in the most extraordinary way possible. In the Harari region of Ethiopia, thirty-five-year-old Bedriya Adem and her husband had spent twelve long years hoping and praying for a child. Year after year passed without the family they longed for, and like many couples who struggle to conceive, they had begun to lose hope. The wait was painful, and the simple dream of holding even one baby felt increasingly out of reach.

Then came the news that would change everything. Bedriya was pregnant, not with one baby, but with five. She had conceived quintuplets completely naturally, without any fertility treatment like IVF. Medical experts were astonished, as the likelihood of naturally conceiving quintuplets is estimated at just one in fifty-five million, making it one of the rarest pregnancies recorded worldwide.

The babies—four boys and one girl—were delivered via Caesarean section at Hiwot Fana Specialised Hospital. Each newborn weighed between 1.3 and 1.4 kilograms. Doctors reported that because each baby weighed over a kilogram, their chances of healthy survival and growth were strong. Both the mother and her five newborns were placed under close medical supervision following the delivery.
