Missing Swimmer Found Alive After Disappearing Into Ocean Off Venice Beach

A man who disappeared into the ocean near Venice Beach overnight was found alive and rescued after an urgent search involving firefighters and Los Angeles County lifeguards.

The incident unfolded shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, near the 1500 block of Ocean Front Walk. Witnesses told authorities they had seen the man enter the water but did not see him return, prompting an immediate search of the shoreline and surrounding waters.

Rescuers searched the area for roughly 20 minutes before locating the unidentified man on rocks near the shoreline. Crews were able to reach him and bring him to safety.

Video from the scene showed Los Angeles firefighters assisting the man onto a gurney. He had suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The quick response by firefighters and lifeguards helped bring the overnight search to a safe conclusion. As of the latest reports, officials had not released the man’s identity or explained why he entered the ocean.

The rescue took place near the Venice Breakwater, an area along Ocean Front Walk where rocky formations extend into the Pacific.
