TOM JONES FACES SHOCK EXIT FROM THE VOICE UK AS ITV UNVEILS MAJOR NEW “LOCKDOWN” TWIST

Sir Tom Jones’ long-running connection with The Voice UK is coming to an end — and the show is preparing for one of its biggest shake-ups yet.

The 86-year-old Welsh music legend has revealed that he did not choose to leave the ITV singing competition after more than a decade as a coach.

Instead, Jones has publicly claimed that ITV decided to remove him from the coaching panel, while offering him a much smaller role in the programme.

The dramatic change has now been followed by reports of a brand-new feature that could completely alter how contestants choose their teams.

Jones joined The Voice UK when the programme launched in 2012 and became one of its most recognisable coaches.

But earlier this month, the singer publicly addressed reports that he had been dropped from the 2027 series.

Jones said he “did not want to leave” the programme and explained that ITV had initially told him the decision was connected to financial difficulties involving insurance.

He also said the broadcaster later described the change as part of an effort to “refresh” the show with a new coaching line-up.

According to Jones, ITV offered him a reduced role in which he would make appearances without being involved as a coach from the beginning.

The singer made clear that he was unhappy with the arrangement.

A NEW ERA IS COMING TO THE VOICE

The reported departure comes as ITV prepares a major overhaul of the programme.

Cheryl is expected to take Jones’ coaching position, while rapper Aitch is joining the panel alongside returning coaches Kelly Rowland and will.i.am.

Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher are also leaving the coaching line-up.

Long-time presenter Emma Willis is stepping away from The Voice UK as she prepares for her new role on Strictly Come Dancing, with Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon reported to be taking over presenting duties.

But the changes do not stop with the cast.

THE “LOCKDOWN” BUTTON CHANGES EVERYTHING

Reports say the familiar Rewind button is being removed and replaced by a new feature called the Lockdown button.

Under the reported format, the button can be used when all four coaches turn their chairs for a contestant during the Blind Auditions.

Instead of allowing the singer to listen to the coaches’ pitches and ultimately choose which team to join, one coach could press Lockdown and automatically secure the contestant for their team.

That means a four-chair turn could now produce a completely different kind of drama.

The singer may no longer have the final say over which coach they join if one of the coaches activates the new button.

The news of Jones’ departure has already triggered a strong reaction from The Voice UK viewers.
