MUM HEARD HER 4-YEAR-OLD CRY ‘STOP DADDY’ BEFORE FATHER AND TWO CHILDREN WERE FOUND DEAD IN BALI

A mother was reportedly on a phone call with her husband when she heard her four-year-old daughter crying “stop daddy” — moments before the family’s two young children and their father were found dead at a holiday bungalow in Bali.

The children, a six-year-old boy and four-year-old girl, were found alongside their father, Damien John Shaw, 56, at the property in Kuta on September 13, 2026.

Indonesian police are investigating the deaths as a suspected murder-suicide, although authorities have stressed that the circumstances have not yet been formally confirmed as such.

THE FINAL PHONE CALL

According to reports cited by The West Australian, Shaw’s wife was around 600 miles away in Jakarta when she spoke to her husband by phone.

During the call, she allegedly heard their young daughter crying out for her father to stop.

The mother became alarmed and contacted a neighbour, asking them to check on the family at the bungalow in Kuta.

Neighbours reportedly rushed to the property after receiving the call.

When they could not get a response, they entered the home and discovered Shaw and the two children inside a bedroom.

The mother was later described by police as being in deep shock and grief.

POLICE EXAMINE CCTV FOOTAGE

Investigators have reportedly recovered CCTV footage from around the bungalow as part of their inquiry.

According to statements reported by Bali Eyewitness News, footage allegedly showed the young girl leaving the bungalow before her father brought her back inside.

Police also reportedly said that Shaw moved the CCTV camera downward before his death, potentially limiting what could be captured inside the property.

These details remain part of the police investigation and have not been tested in court.

A FAMILY MARRIAGE UNDER STRAIN

Police said Shaw’s wife told them that the couple’s marriage had been troubled for several years.

She reportedly said the relationship had been marked by frequent arguments and had deteriorated since around 2022.

According to police, she had left for her parents’ home on September 10, three days before the deaths.

Investigators also said Shaw had attempted suicide approximately a month before the tragedy. His wife reportedly intervened at the time, but the couple did not seek psychiatric treatment.

The details are now being examined as investigators attempt to establish what happened during the family’s final days together.

THE CHILDREN’S DEATHS

The two children were found dead inside the family bungalow alongside their father.

A forensic doctor from Ngoerah General Bali Hospital was involved in examining the bodies.

The exact circumstances and sequence of events remain under investigation.

The mother has reportedly declined a full autopsy, believing that the available CCTV footage and her husband’s history provide sufficient information about what happened.

Because of that, some questions surrounding the deaths may remain subject to the ongoing investigation.

FAMILY HAD LIVED IN AUSTRALIA

The family had connections to Perth, Western Australia, where former neighbours described them as private and generally peaceful.

One former neighbour told The Australian that Shaw had never caused trouble in the local community and that news of the deaths was met with disbelief.

The tragedy has also prompted a response from Western Australian Premier Roger Cook, who expressed his condolences while cautioning against describing the case as a confirmed murder-suicide before investigators establish exactly what happened.

“This is a very sad situation,” Cook said, while stressing that the circumstances had not yet been formally confirmed.

AUSTRALIAN OFFICIALS PROVIDING SUPPORT

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has confirmed that consular assistance is being provided to the family.

The investigation is being conducted by Indonesian authorities, who are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

For the children’s mother and wider family, the tragedy has left devastating questions about what happened inside the bungalow during those final moments.

The alleged final phone call, CCTV footage and Shaw’s previous reported suicide attempt are among the details investigators are examining.

But until the investigation is complete, authorities have not formally established every detail of the deaths.
