THE BABY WHO CARRIED THE WORLD ON HIS TINY SHOULDERS

Born prematurely at just 34 weeks, little Atlas entered the world facing unimaginable medical hurdles. From his very first breath, he was diagnosed with a series of complex and severe heart conditions, including Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV), d-Transposition of the Great Arteries (d-TGA), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD), Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), and pulmonary atresia. Each condition on its own represents a major medical challenge, but together, they meant Atlas faced a steep battle for survival right from birth.

For almost his entire life, the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) served as his home. Aside from a single, precious week at home and ten days staying close to his mother at the Ronald McDonald House, Atlas was surrounded by medical monitors, hospital staff, and continuous specialized care.

His journey was marked by immense bravery as he underwent open-heart surgery and a complex Rastelli procedure to reconstruct his heart’s pathways. In the months that followed, his tiny body relied on intensive medical support as he fought every day to recover and heal, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who followed his courageous story.
