“SHE WAS FULL OF LIFE” — DANIELLE O’KEANE DIES DAYS AFTER WESTLIFE CONCERT

What began as a special night out with friends to see Westlife in Dublin has ended in heartbreak for the family of Danielle O’Keane, a 37-year-old mother of two from Newry.

Danielle died on October 1, 2026, several days after she suffered catastrophic brain injuries in a road crash in Dublin.

She had travelled to the city with friends to attend Westlife’s concert at the 3Arena on September 26. After the show, she was making her way into the city centre to meet her husband and friends when the tragedy happened.

Her death has left behind a devastated husband, two young sons and a community now remembering her as a woman who was full of energy, kindness and warmth.

Danielle had travelled from Newry to Dublin for what her family described as a rare opportunity to go out and enjoy herself with friends.

The group attended Westlife’s performance at the 3Arena.

After the concert, Danielle and two other women travelled by motorised rickshaw towards Dublin city centre, where they planned to meet Danielle’s husband, Dave, and the partners of the other women.

The journey was expected to be short.

Instead, it became a devastating turning point.

THE CRASH ON NORTH WALL QUAY

According to accounts from Danielle’s family reported by Irish media, the rickshaw clipped a divider between a cycle lane and the main road and overturned.

Danielle fell from the vehicle and was struck by an approaching car.

Gardaí confirmed that shortly after 11 p.m. on September 26, a woman in her 30s was struck by a vehicle on North Wall Quay and taken by ambulance to the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital with serious injuries.

Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene.

Another woman travelling in the rickshaw suffered injuries including a broken nose and broken teeth, according to reports.

Danielle was admitted to intensive care and placed on a ventilator.

Her family were later told that she had suffered a life-ending brain injury.

For days, those closest to her remained by her side while doctors carried out further assessments.

Her brother-in-law Derek described the situation as devastating, saying the family had been facing the possibility that Danielle would not recover.

Despite the medical team’s efforts, Danielle died surrounded by her family on October 1.

SHE LEFT BEHIND TWO LITTLE BOYS

Danielle was the beloved wife of Dave O’Keane and mother of two young boys, Caolán, 5, and Cillian, 2.

A death notice described her as a much-loved wife and mother, as well as the beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline and sister of Barry and her twin brother, Sean.

Her family had been looking forward to spending more time together.

Danielle, Dave and their two sons were reportedly due to travel to Mallorca in early October for what would have been their first family holiday together.

The trip was planned.

The bags were packed.

But instead of boarding a flight with her husband and children, Danielle’s family was preparing to say goodbye.

“FULL OF LIFE” AND “HEART OF GOLD”

As news of Danielle’s death spread, tributes poured in from friends, former classmates and members of her community.

Her brother-in-law described her as someone with a “heart of gold” who was “full of life” and “full of energy.”

Other tributes remembered Danielle as a gentle, kind-hearted woman with a warm smile.

One former classmate described her as a devoted mother and remembered seeing her at the school gates.

Another friend wrote that she was an amazing woman who would be terribly missed.

The messages all shared the same theme: Danielle was deeply loved by the people around her.

WESTLIFE REPORTEDLY REACHED OUT

Danielle’s family also revealed that members of Westlife had reached out privately after learning about the tragedy.

The concert had been the reason Danielle was in Dublin that night.

For her, it was supposed to be an evening of music, friendship and a rare chance to relax away from her everyday responsibilities.

Instead, it became the final night of a life that her family says still had so much ahead of it.

A FUNDRAISER RALLIES AROUND THE FAMILY

Following the crash, Danielle’s family launched an online fundraiser to help support her husband and their two children.

The response was enormous.

By October 2, reports said donations had passed £114,000, while another report said the campaign had approached £150,000.

The amount continues to change as people donate.

For a family suddenly facing the loss of a wife and mother, the financial support is one small way that friends, neighbours and strangers have tried to help them through an unimaginable period.

GARDAÍ ARE STILL INVESTIGATING

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the North Wall Quay area between approximately 10:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. on September 26 who may have dashcam or other relevant footage.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Store Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.

The investigation will determine the circumstances surrounding the collision, and the available evidence should be allowed to establish what happened.

A FAMILY HOLIDAY THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN

Perhaps one of the most heartbreaking details is the future Danielle had been preparing for.

She was a mother of two young boys.

She had a husband she loved.

She had friends waiting to see her after the concert.

And she had a family holiday ahead.

Mallorca was supposed to be a chance for Danielle, Dave, Caolán and Cillian to make their first memories together as a family away from home.

Instead, those plans have become a painful reminder of everything that has been lost.

REMEMBERING DANIELLE

Danielle O’Keane was only 37.

To the public, she became known through the tragic circumstances of her final days.

But to her family and friends, she was much more than a headline.

She was a wife.

A mother.

A daughter.

A sister.

A friend.

And, in the words of those who knew her, someone who was full of life, full of energy and had a heart of gold.

Her night at a Westlife concert was supposed to be a happy memory.

Her journey home changed everything.

Now, as Gardaí continue their investigation, Danielle’s loved ones are left with the memories of the woman they loved and the two little boys who will grow up knowing how deeply their mother was loved.

More than anything, the tributes tell the story of a woman who made an impression on the people around her — and whose absence has left a huge space behind.

Danielle’s life was tragically short, but the love surrounding her family has been anything but small.
