“SHE WAS A BEAUTIFUL, CARING GIRL” — NADIA MUCHA, 16, DIES DAYS AFTER BEING FOUND INJURED ON WAKEFIELD ROAD AS FAMILY WAITS FOR ANSWERS

Nadia Mucha was found lying near a bus stop on Rooks Nest Road late at night. Four days later, the 16-year-old died in hospital — and detectives are now investigating a suspected fail-to-stop collision.

For Nadia Mucha, the night of September 29 began like any other evening.

But by the time emergency services arrived on Rooks Nest Road in Wakefield, the 16-year-old was lying seriously injured near a bus stop.

She was rushed to hospital.

Her condition was critical.

For the next four days, her family could only hope she would survive.

She never came home.

Nadia died in hospital on Saturday, October 3.

Now, detectives are investigating what happened to the teenager and why the vehicle believed to have been involved did not stop.

West Yorkshire Police were called to Rooks Nest Road at approximately 8:33pm on Tuesday, September 29, following a report that a 16-year-old girl had been found lying in the road close to a bus stop.

Nadia was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

At first, detectives said they were keeping an open mind about how she had been injured.

Officers appealed to anyone who had been driving or walking in the area around the time of the incident, asking for dashcam and doorbell footage that could help establish what happened.

The investigation changed several days later.

Police said they now believed Nadia had been the victim of a fail-to-stop road traffic collision.

In other words, investigators believe a vehicle struck her and left the scene without stopping.

Despite treatment in hospital, Nadia’s condition remained critical.

On Saturday, October 3, four days after she was found on the road, she sadly died from her injuries.

The news transformed an already serious investigation into a fatal collision inquiry.

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team took the lead.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Elly Buchanan said officers were continuing to support Nadia’s family during what she described as a “horrific time.”

She said investigators were working to establish exactly what happened and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A 25-YEAR-OLD MAN ARRESTED

In the early hours of Monday, October 5, detectives arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He was initially held while officers continued their enquiries.

By October 6, police confirmed that the man had been released on bail pending further enquiries.

No charge had been announced against him at that stage.

The investigation therefore remains ongoing, and the arrest should not be treated as a finding of guilt.

NADIA’S NAME IS FINALLY RELEASED

On October 6, West Yorkshire Police formally identified the teenager as Nadia Mucha, aged 16.

The announcement gave a name to the young person at the centre of the investigation and allowed the public to understand that the case involved a real teenager whose life had been cut tragically short.

Police said they continued to support Nadia’s family as they sought answers.

Her family are now facing the unimaginable task of grieving a 16-year-old who should have had decades of life ahead of her.

REMEMBERING NADIA AS MORE THAN A HEADLINE

As news of Nadia’s identity spread, reports began describing her as a caring and selfless young girl.

Those who knew her have been left devastated by her sudden loss.

For people who loved Nadia, the details of the police investigation are only one part of the story.

They remember a teenager with relationships, friendships and a life that existed long before her name appeared in the news.

That is the Nadia her family and friends want remembered.

Not simply the 16-year-old at the centre of a police investigation.

But a young girl whose life mattered to the people around her.

THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS

Detectives are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the Rooks Nest Road area around the time Nadia was found.

Even seemingly minor information could prove important.

Police have previously asked motorists with dashcam footage and residents with doorbell or CCTV recordings to check their devices.

Investigators are particularly interested in information that could help establish what happened between approximately 8pm and 8:30pm on September 29.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police, quoting reference 13260555273.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers.

A FAMILY WAITING FOR JUSTICE

Nadia’s death has left her loved ones facing questions that only the investigation may be able to answer.

Why was she on the road?

What happened in the moments before she was found?

What vehicle was involved?

And why did the driver allegedly fail to remain at the scene?

Police believe they are dealing with a road traffic collision, but their investigation is still developing.

Until the evidence is fully established, many of those questions remain unanswered.

SIXTEEN YEARS OLD

Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of Nadia’s story is simply her age.

She was 16.

An age when life should be filled with plans, friendships, school memories and dreams about what comes next.

Instead, her family are now planning how to say goodbye.

And detectives are working to reconstruct the final moments of her life.

For those who knew Nadia, she will always be more than the circumstances surrounding her death.

She was a daughter.

A friend.

A teenager with an entire future ahead of her.

And someone whose life meant something deeply to the people who loved her.

“ANSWERS THEY DESERVE”

Detective Chief Inspector Buchanan said investigators were working “at pace” to find the answers Nadia’s family deserve.

That search continues.

A man has been arrested and released on bail.

The suspected vehicle collision is under investigation.

And officers are still asking members of the public to come forward.

For Nadia’s family, however, no investigation can change the most painful fact of all.

Their 16-year-old daughter is not coming home.

💔 Nadia Mucha was only 16. Her name is now known, but the questions surrounding her final moments remain — and her family are still waiting for answers.
