When baby David James entered the world missing one leg, his parents were met with a reality that often brings fear and uncertainty. But from the very beginning, they chose a different response. To them, David was not defined by what he lacked, but by everything he could become.

“I never once thought of him as less,” his father said. “I thought about how to help him stand, how to help him move, how to give him the freedom every child deserves. I just did what a parent does.”

“We never wanted him to feel different,” his mother added. “We wanted him to feel capable. And that starts at home, with how you look at your child.”
