“THE LAST NIGHT”: ROYAL FAMILY GP’S FINAL HOURS EMERGE IN COURT AS HUSBAND FACES MURDER CHARGE

Dr Hannah Cain, a respected doctor who was part of a medical team serving the Royal Family near Sandringham, was found unresponsive at home while children were reportedly staying overnight. Her husband has now appeared in court as prosecutors outlined the allegations surrounding her death.

A family home in Dersingham, Norfolk, became the centre of a major criminal investigation after Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was found unconscious and not breathing in the early hours of Sunday, October 4.

Known professionally to patients as Dr Hannah Terry, she was a mother of three and a GP whose work included being part of a pool of doctors available to members of the Royal Family when they stayed at the nearby Sandringham Estate.

Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has been charged with her murder. The allegations against him have not been proven, and he remains presumed innocent unless convicted in court.

THE EMERGENCY CALL IN THE EARLY HOURS

During court proceedings, prosecutors outlined the circumstances surrounding the emergency response at the couple’s home.

The ambulance service contacted police at approximately 2:25 a.m. on October 4. Dr Cain was subsequently found in an upstairs bedroom, unconscious and unresponsive.

A post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and injuries to her neck consistent with compression, the court heard.

At a later hearing, prosecutors set out allegations that she had been struck on the head and strangled. These remain allegations forming part of the prosecution case, not findings established by a trial.

One of the most distressing details to emerge was that children were present at the property that night.

Prosecutor Steven Ball told King’s Lynn Crown Court that the couple’s three children, aged eight, 11 and 13, had been upstairs, while two other children, aged eight and 10, were staying overnight for a sleepover.

The presence of the children has added to the public attention surrounding the case. However, authorities have not publicly established every detail of what happened inside the home or the full sequence of events leading to Dr Cain’s death.

Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link from prison on October 8.

He confirmed his identity but was not asked to enter a plea. The judge remanded him in custody until a plea hearing scheduled for December 3, provisionally at Norwich Crown Court.

A provisional trial date had not been set at the hearing.

The criminal proceedings are at an early stage, and the prosecution’s account will need to be tested through the legal process.

A DOCTOR REMEMBERED FOR HER CARE

Beyond the courtroom allegations, colleagues, patients and relatives are mourning the loss of a woman who devoted much of her professional life to caring for others.

Dr Cain was listed as a member of the team at Grimston Medical Centre and had worked as a GP for eight years, following more than 15 years as a qualified doctor. She also ran a cosmetic-treatment business, Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.

Her family described her as “kind, generous and loving” and praised the care she gave to her patients.

Their tribute offered a glimpse of the person behind the headlines: a doctor, a mother and a loved one whose loss has left family and colleagues devastated.

QUESTIONS REMAIN AS THE CASE CONTINUES

The court hearings have brought some details of Dr Cain’s final hours into public view, but the case is far from concluded.

The full circumstances surrounding her death will be addressed through the investigation and criminal proceedings. No motive has been established publicly, and the charge against Mark Cain is not a finding of guilt.

For those who knew Dr Cain, the attention surrounding her reported connection to the Royal Family cannot overshadow the personal loss they are facing.

She was a doctor trusted by patients, a mother to three children and a member of her local community.

As the case moves forward, her family’s tribute remains a reminder that behind every courtroom headline is a life remembered by those who loved her.
