THE NIGHT EVERYTHING CHANGED — ROYAL GP FOUND UNRESPONSIVE AS HUSBAND’S ‘BURGLAR’ CLAIM COMES UNDER SCRUTINY

Five children were reportedly sleeping over at the family home when an emergency call brought police to the property. Now, a court has heard allegations against the husband of Dr Hannah Cain, a GP known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry.

What should have been an ordinary night at home became the centre of a deeply disturbing court case.

Dr Hannah Cain, 45, was found unconscious and unresponsive at her home in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of October 4, 2026. Her husband, Mark Cain, 45, has since been charged with her murder.

The case took a further turn during a preliminary court hearing, when prosecutors outlined allegations that Hannah had suffered serious head and neck injuries. The hearing also revisited the emergency call in which Mark reportedly claimed there had been a break-in.

A night that ended in tragedy

According to evidence outlined in court, the couple’s three children and two visiting children were staying at the property that night.

Emergency services attended the home after the incident was reported. Hannah was found in an upstairs bedroom, and a post-mortem examination recorded blunt-force injuries to her head and neck injuries consistent with compression.

Prosecutors allege that Mark struck Hannah with an axe and strangled her. These are allegations presented as part of the criminal proceedings, not a finding of guilt.

Reports say Mark initially told police that he had encountered an intruder and had sustained superficial cuts during a confrontation.

That account has become a significant part of the case as investigators examine the circumstances surrounding Hannah’s injuries and the events leading to the emergency call.

The details presented in court have prompted renewed questions about what happened inside the property. However, the allegations must be tested through the legal process, and the court has not reached a verdict.

Who was Dr Hannah Terry?

Hannah was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and worked as a GP at Grimston Medical Centre. She had also run a cosmetics business and was part of a group of doctors reportedly available to provide care to members of the Royal Family when they stayed near Sandringham.

Following her death, her family described her as “kind, generous and loving.” They paid tribute to her dedication to her patients and asked for privacy as they faced an immeasurable loss.

Her death has also deeply affected the local medical community, where colleagues remembered her warmth and commitment to caring for others.

Mark Cain appeared at King’s Lynn Crown Court by video link on October 8. He was remanded in custody, with a further hearing provisionally scheduled for December 3 at Norwich Crown Court. He was not asked to enter a plea at that hearing.

The case remains before the courts. The allegations against him have not been proven, and he is entitled to a fair trial.

As investigators and prosecutors continue to examine the events of that night, Hannah’s family are left grieving a woman remembered for her compassion, her work and the relationships she built throughout her life.

One emergency call, a family home and a series of allegations now before the court: the full circumstances surrounding Hannah Cain’s final hours will be examined through the judicial process.
