MAYA GEBALA REACHES CRITICAL MILESTONE AFTER FIFTH MAJOR SURGERY
Tumbler Ridge survivor Maya Gebala has successfully completed her fifth major operation—a critical cranioplasty procedure designed to place a custom prosthetic skull piece. The surgery became necessary after the young girl developed hydrocephalus once again, adding another challenging chapter to her ongoing medical journey.

Despite the complexity and risks associated with the procedure, the outcome has brought immense relief and optimism to her loved ones. Soon after waking up from the operation, Maya amazed her parents by opening her eye, lifting her head, squeezing their fingers, and looking around her room with genuine curiosity. These encouraging responses marked a significant moment of resilience after such an intensive ordeal.
Maya’s father, David, shared that the surgery was an absolute success. Crucially, medical professionals observed no visible signs of the severe infection that had previously complicated her recovery efforts.

Having endured four major surgeries prior to this recent procedure, Maya’s parents and supporters remain hopeful that this cranioplasty will finally be her last required operation. Her remarkable strength during post-surgery recovery continues to inspire her family as they look forward to a peaceful and steady healing path ahead.
